Recording Session with the Kiev Symphony Orchestra

Recently, I had the opportunity to record several of my cues with the Kiev Symphony Orchestra in Kiev, Ukraine. The cues were recorded as concept demos for several clients who are considering having me score with live orchestra on a number of feature film and documentary projects in the fall. The first cue is a re-recording of "Powers of Ten", recorded with a 100 piece orchestra, 40 voice choral, and solo mezzo soprano. I directed/produced over broadband video conference from Colorado Springs. T… Continue

Curent Projects

Check out a new cue on my page called "Journey". It's based on a suite of themes I'm currently working on for a "film trailer" publisher who's intention is to have te cues eventually re-recorded by live orchestra and pitch to film trailer houses in LA. I just got back from working for 23 days as sound recordist on the indy feature film "Winning Favor" starring Matt Ashford ( Days of our Lives) and Candace Rose (ER, CSI, Law & Order). Back in the studio, I'm working on a new theme music packa… Continue

Sounds Great! Love the orchestration. Nice atmosphere and it sounds like some varied influences, from Penderecki to Romantic. Just curious as to what sounds you are using, sounds like real instruments to me. Nice work. -Peter

Hi John,

Thanks, it depends on the budget really. We like to use as much live stuff as we can. The majority of the tracks I've uploaded are a mixture of VSL samples with the odd live instrument to lift it.

Cheers David

Ray,

Thanks for your comments. I'm a big fan of taking simple, memorable melodies and weaving them into orchestral tapestries.

John,
I enjoy listening to your music as a reference to taking simple tunes or themes and building the orchestration around them.
It seems so simple and straightforward yet so many fail.
