I'm 50 years old and working as an independent sr. usability expert / software designer. I am currently working on Library Music tracks which for me (with 4 kids to support) is the best way to gradually switch to making music professionally. I have a composition setup with a Daw running Cubase 5, a dedicated reverb PC, three GigaStudio 3 sample PCs and a Kontakt PC (stack of 6 19"cases).

For reverb I use my own Impulse Response libraries (

Migrating to MADI!

Posted on December 16, 2007 at 8:29am 8 Comments

Hey friends,

I have started to migrate my composition PC "farm" to MADI.

My current setup uses the maximum of 12 stereo inputs into my DAW via the RME HDSP9656 card (three Adat inputs = 24 mono channels). I was running into track limits with this setup and also wanted to have more separate outputs groups from my three Gigastudio PCs.

So I decided to take the plunge and start building a new DAW (quadcore) and later use the current DAW as fourth GigaStudio PC. I am also in…

On the latest mix/master of Riding Out At Dawn I threw in some nice heavy guitar chords from Alex Pfeffer's (Waywyn) guitar library. Very nice stuff Alex!

And to Herman: last week I ordered a duduk from - it's currently already for two days in the Dutch customs... :P Maybe it smells funny... ;-)

Check Herman's Duduk library at his site, it's really great!

Cheers friends!

Hello Mike!

Well, the duduk spent nearly a week at the Dutch customs!
I am going to pick it up at the post office tomorrow.

I guess it took them a while to find an Armenian native to prove it's not a secret Taliban weapon... ;-)

Hi Peter,

Darn it, now I'm interested in whether I could play Duduk, a craving I've not had before... your comment about customs made me laugh!

Love the trailer music.

Hey Peter,

Duduk is kind of difficult if you don't have any reed experience, but sound isn't that hard to achieve, and if you start out with soft reeds you should be fine. It's a bit hard to get lessons anywhere though - I just listened to Gaspyaryan a lot, myself ;-) You can get good duduks & reeds (ghamish) at and

I performed all the instruments on Rekindled, and the vocals were done by Charlie Pollock, a broadway vocalist.

Thanks Herman!

Did I use the Duduk "appropriately"? ;-)

I am thinking about buying one myself and learn how to play it. Is it very difficult?

Cheers man! Delete Comment
