G'day from Disconnectica

Hi folks,I wrote music many years ago, when I was at school.  We had two synths (Roland D50 and Ensoniq ESQ-1) and a hardware sequencer (Roland MC500 Mk 2).  So I would write music and record stuff…Continue

"Thanks for the feedback Gav.  I wasn't particularly going for psychedelic, but I guess that's where it ended up.  You can hear the stripped back version in the piano at the end (at least of the chorus).  I thought the chords…"

"Hi Disconnecta, It is well executed and hits the atmospheric mark I think you were striving for, congratulations for that. The only place where I thought the piece lagged was that if you take out all the psychedelic effects, what you're left…"

"Very nice. Seems to capture what I know of the flavour of the times. Original in that I can't single out a particular influence. A nice production. Sounds like the kind of thing artists of the 60s did on a 4- or 8-track tape recorder. Very Oz…"

"I enjoyed this. The only thing that seemed slightly out of place to me was the chipmunk vocalist. I think this added a less serious element to it and made me think it wasn't a serious work and instead was some guy playing around with plug ins…"

"I'm afraid I also have to say that it sounded very robotic to me.  In a way, some Bach also sounds robotic, but he still brings a human element to it.  I'm quite a technical person myself (I'm a programmer and fan of maths),…"

"Yeah I kind of agree with the others.  It's a bit too MIDI sounding.  I do everything virtual as well, and mostly use virtual versions of real instruments rather than synths, so I know it's hard to get it sounding natural. …"

"Whichever one it is, the strings handle the second and third beat waltz rhythm, which actually is pretty common I think in waltzes, and it's very effective, so this would work well with just strings."

I wrote music many years ago with two synths and a hardware sequencer and always wanted to get back to it. Finally here I am! Luckily still have most of my old MIDI data. I'm revamping my old pieces as well as writing new ones.

I play piano, but am out of practice now. Aside from occasional vocals, my pieces are all virtual, but I try to make them sound like real instruments. I've got a couple of full production vocal tracks, some ragtime/boogie pieces, and some solo piano pieces in various styles.

It's all over the place, which is partly why I've gone with the name Disconnectica.
