Music Composers Unite!
Davide Severi, born January the 4th, 1977.
Musician, composer and multi-instrumentalist.
He currently works as Composer and Sound Designer for movie and media.
He began studying Piano at the age of five, undergoing Classical studies. At the age of twelve he soon approaches synthetizers and electronic music; he then studies Jazz Piano at Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio with Roberto Fassi and Luca Sabatini. Finally he reaches his most loved instrument, the Harpsichord and the ancient keyboards of the Baroque Era, studying with m° Fernando de Luca and Francesco Maschio.
During the years, apart from the keyboard studies, he got experienced in the following instruments/musical genres:
Indian Classical Singing and Music - with M° Sangeeta Bandhyopadhyay and Pandit Sankha Chatterjee;
Classical Singing with M° Marisa Marchio,
Harmonic or Throat Singing, as a musical practice and as a therapeutical tool, first with Stefano Stefani and then with master Tran Quang Hai.
Electronic music and Composition with Luca Spagnoletti.
At an early age, he began studying Acoustic and Electric Guitar, making it one of his main instruments.
He also studied and practiced middle-eastern percussions like Darbouka, stringed instruments of the turkish area (Saz, Oud), Indian Bansoori and Japanese Shakuhachi (flutes). Among other instruments, he plays the Hang, the harmonic percussion.
He keeps on studying various aspects of music theory and practice, experimenting in cross-fields like mathematics/geometry and computer-aided compositions.
As of his musical style, he was deeply influenced by Indian, Japanese and Turkish musical cultures, the Baroque music, Electronic Music, and Metal.
He constantly integrates all of these experiences in his own compositions, which he performs regularly.
Performance and Art
In the Electronic Music scene, going under the name of Da'wei, he's been seen performing with acts as the likes of Grooverider, Mu-ziq, Venetian Snares, and other IDM and Drum'n'bass veterans, since year 2000, in Italy and abroad.
He won the 2002 edition of the "Diesel-U-Music" contest held at Rolling Stone, Milan; the show was broadcasted by the major national TV channels, among them Mtv.
He creates and collaborates in audio-visual installations and videoart; among his last works, "Forgetful 0.1" and "Forgetful 0.2", "The Foreigner" and "Water" by and with Daniele Spanò, showcasing at RomaEuropa Festival held at Rome's Palladium.
He makes music for advertisement and movie trailers, and sound design for Websites. Among some of the clients: Vigorsol, Eagle Pictures, Terna, Ovo.
Many of his tracks were the score for the 2009 season of documentaries "Atlantide" aired on national television La7.
He produced different acts, ranging from Hip-Hop (Khadim Fall, Saint P, ShanglHangl) some of which received national coverage, to pop and electro acts (Discofunken)
Composer of filmscores in many short - and medium lenght movies; like Gemini (Andrea Vacca), Il Sindaco (Gianluca Baldari) Naso d'Argento e Siamo Liberi (Anjan di Leonardo), Sono Bello (Giuliano Carmignani), Shadow, Stoss (Pietro Sussi).
Music scoring for Theatre, for the pieces "La Follia del signor Beckett" (Patrizia Horvath), "Infantile Follia" (DionisoinDemetra).
He's been giving workshops for music for movies, at Volcano Film Festival in Giarre (Catania).
He's a photographer and videographer, and produces videos for his own projects.
