Received a Bachelor of Music Education from Mt. Union College and pursued studies in New York at the Julliard School of Music as a mallet/ percussion major and piano minor. Composition and jazz studies became my first and primary interest as I studied composition privately with Hall Overton, professor at Julliard, along with Richie Bierach, jazz pianist . Military duty interrupted my student days, and was assigned as arranger/composer for the First Army Stage Band stationed in New York City.
Received grants in composition from the National Endowment for the Arts, Wisconsin Arts Board, and Milwaukee Arts Board. Composition styles range from classical to fusion for varied instrumentation; composing music for piano, jazz quartet, string quartet, contemporary dance and woodwind quintet.
I composed a concerto for the hammered dulcimer and orchestra which was premiered by the Present Music Orchestra in Milwaukee.
