Hey all. I am looking for places to gig (play concerts) on piano, vocals, etc. I am a student composer and have been for three years. I've been writing songs since I was six. I know many songs from the rock of the 1960's, 70's, and maybe some '80's.…

One of my favorite genres in the whole of music when it comes to songwriting or singer-songwriters is folk - folk rock music. I had been listening to some music catorgized as urban music. The two styles have similar instrumentation--guitars being a…

I would find enjoyment in music, actually I have many good times enjoying music, but I guess is true that the real artists as ourselves are the ones who practically starve enjoying the music we create. I know I've been blessed with a talent as many…

About Me:
I am a sophomore at Cal State San Bernardino as a music composition and technology major. I play piano and of course write songs and scores. I started playing piano at the age of two and have been playing ever since (even with a slight case of cerebral palsy). I've started composing over 50 scores and have written over 1300 of my own pop lyrics for pop songs. I'm hoping to earn my B.A, MA, and doctoral degrees in composition. I am new to the composer's forum and I'm looking for networking opportunities with other composers and performing institutions. I thought this was the place to start. I'l be uploading soon.

A Pianist Looking for Performance Opportunities in 2010.

Hey all. I am looking for places to gig (play concerts) on piano, vocals, etc. I am a student composer and have been for three years. I've been writing songs since I was six. I know many songs from the rock of the 1960's, 70's, and maybe some '80's. I also know some classical repertoire. I have played at book club meetings so far and am looking to broaden my experience as a performer and a writer outside of school. The gigs I would be looking for would be in San Bernardino CA and the surrounding… Continue

Added "Finite Meditation" and "Wake Up My Love" for choir

Hey fellow composers, I have finally been able to put up two works.
1. "Wake Up My Love," (Click on "Wake Up 6)-- the choral work that I said had been finished for quite some time.
2. "Finite Meditation" a mix of sitar and other synth string textures that was performed at our music tech concert last year. I hope you enjoy them. I'm currently working on another project for a film--not a big one, one of those low budget ones.
-Peace.

Announcing The New Choir Work

Hey All. My new work for choir and piano is finally finished. It is in MIDI form since I haven't had a performance of it yet. I am hoping to get a performance of it this coming Fall by either the CSUSB Chamber Singers or Concert Choir. Maybe I'll try to put the audio up on my page once it is performed live. To listen to a version of it, click this link: http://wildpianoman.xanga.com/ and click on the box that says:"Wake Up My Love MIDI Choral Work (SATB + Piano). It should work. Let me know if i… Continue

Any Composers know of any composition gigs?

Hey all. I was hoping to get some outside, real world experience in composing for films and other venues. I was wondering if any of you have advice as to where I could start exploring this realm of composition? I really would like others to use my music and for me to be sought after. I know it seems selfish, but I really get a self-esteem boost when my music is performed by others.

Composition Competitions

Hey all. I was wondering if there were any more composition competitions around. The ones I have checked out have all past. Can anyone give me some ideas on what competitions I could enter? I really want to get some of my works noticed by more than just the music department at Cal State. I want real reviews, not just school reviews. The prize money too could be a huge abetment to my financial struggles. I may loose the scholarship I have because I'm really getting hammered by a class or two. Any… Continue

Cheers. Some of the tracks are some years old and you'll be able to hear a difference in sound quality. I used to use Logic Silver v3.5 on a PC. Now Logic is only supported on Macs. Thanks again for showing interest in my stuff! Best wishes, Alex

Hi Cody. Welcome to Composer's Forum! Thank you very much for your compliment. It does me good. I wrote this piece based on a horror story by a guy called H.P. Lovecraft. I love the story so much that I really knew what I wanted when I started composing. I used sounds from Logic Pro Studio that I run on my iMac. The sounds are so good, my old Roland synth is almost redundant! I also use a Digidesign mBox2 as an audio interface. The mixing tools on Logic Pro are, well, pro so that helps me shape the sound! I'm so glad you like it.

I know you're a songwriter which is great. There's a song of mine called Overcast on my player. I'd be interested to hear what you thought of it. I've also got two new songs with lyrics almost finished and I'm very happy with them! I'll definitely post them here. Good luck with your mammoth composing task. Alex

Hey! Cody,

Even through the terrible recordings here there is something worth telling you.
Go read about and listen to Jeff Buckley. You can do that stuff, give it a try.

Hi Cody:

We all have different propensities and capacities, and comparing one to another is of little value. The thing is to find out what floats our boat and procede with caution, humilty and much passion. So, keep composing. Expand your comfort zone; keep studying lots of music in lots of styles and from many eras. We are not alone in composing, but composing is a solitary activity. Stay at it, and - as I say most of the time - enjoy the process. That's mostly what we have.
I'm visiting Omaha, Nebraska for a few days; going to teach fly tying and make a fly fishing presentation, as well. Fun stuff. Dale
