Hi Chris., I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.. I have been struggling with personal yuk since the summer and now am in full swing preparing for my concert at Lincoln Center. I WILL listen to your music as soon as I can have the time AND the quiet to be able to pay good attention. Right now I'm going crazy....Please forgive the delay...I really am crazy. ;o]

Hi Chris
I left a long and hopefully helpful comment about your March but it got deleted along with my profile. I'm not sure whether you got a chance to read it - if not, I'd be happy to pm my comments to you. I really enjoyed it by the way.

On your desktop. You must be a youngun. I, on the other hand am an admitted techno challenged dinosaur and still write on yellow lined legal pads with pencils. My 'files' are stashed in ancient paper folders. Now, THAT might be a project to attempt when "Merry Christmas, New York City!" is over: Converting all those hundreds of scraps into word. Then again, maybe not... ;o)

Two years ago I had a successful Nashville songwriter, Pierce Pettis, give an all day songwriting workshop at our annual CAM conference. It was awe inspiring; even the most seasoned among us learned numerous new things. One of the interesting things he said was that nearly every composer he ever met has a giant folder and sometimes boxloads of unfinished songs...sometimes only one line or snippets of something that moved him/her. I have 2 fat folders of scraps of paper, napkins from restaurants, looseleaf (do they still make loosleaf?) ... etc., etc., etc....I believe we'll finish a piece when the time is right to do so. I bet you have one of those folders or some other receptacle. Maybe today is the day to open it and see if anything jumps out at you to work on! Now that I'm talking about them, I wish I could get into my folders but for the next 3 months I do nothing but work on a Christmas show I produce in NY...Blinders go on and I'm in offcial show mode! No writing, no nuthin' but Christmas, Christmas, Christmas! ><>

Well, much like the other music groups to which I belong, this one, similarly, has talent of all levels and professional experience or lack thereof. I hope you find a few to collaborate with and draw from. Most creative types love to share; composers might not be so over the top about it but they wouldn't be part of this forum if they didn't want to be part of this forum! ;o) We just have to stay in the loop and ask... ><>

Critique Please! ^___^

Thanks for your first response here! I will tell you the truth, I am terrible at piano, so the piano part will never be interesting until I learn to play it. The piano DOES play the same part over a…

Tyler makes an interesting point of me not cleaning up the score: That mezzo-soprano part is nto a vocal part, its a percusiion part (Because of how Finale handles garritan) and those 3 G# are wind…

The why and the who of composition

Why do you compose music? Because it moves me. When a small little theme enters my brain either through me improvising on Flute or listening to music, I feel a need to take that little theme where I…
