How to Properly Analyze a Piece?

Hello all,I am new to composing. One of the exercises I have been told to do is to find music that I enjoy, analyze them, and try to figure out why it sounds "good" the way it does and to hopefully gain some information into why the composer wrote it that way in order to help write my own music. For a quick exercise, I chose "Relm's Theme" from Final Fantasy III, which was written by Nobuo Uematsu. If you're not familiar with the game - Relm is a young painter. She is talented, smaller (in…See More

"Anthony, this piece is beautiful. I really enjoyed listening to it. Great repetition but not too much. The melody leaves an impression for sure. Great job. "

"I really enjoyed this piece. It was relaxing, smooth, nice jazzy vibe. My only real critique is that at times I wished some of the chord changes were faster. Other than that - Well done!"

About Me (Must include biographical information about you as a composer):
I have been a music lover all of my life. Asked my mom for an Elvis cassette tape and played that thing over and over. From there I kept bothering her to buy me a Louis Armstrong CD. She did. At age eleven I picked up the guitar and learned all that I could. At age nine my older sister bought me an Iron Maiden Live tape. I absolutely loved it. Age twelve I started a punk band and fell in love with hardcore, metal, and all of their subgenres. My mom was an avid listener of classical music. I really loved Bach and really enjoyed hearing her play Andrés Segovia throughout the halls of our home. All of my life I have explored every genre of music and loved almost all of them. I recently began my foray into the classical world and lately have been enjoying Schoenberg, Mosolov, Feinberg, Ravel, Liszt, Scriabin, Sorabji, and on and on and on. Really happy to be here!
