About Me:
I've been writing and performing music of all sorts for over 20 years. During that time I've played guitar and mandolin in clubs with bands and on the concert stage with orchestras. I've taken a few degrees in music and written music for Microsoft. My main gig is commercial music, though I still get the occasional commission for concert music.
Thanks for your kind words. I use Sonar 7, Sibelius 5, and East West Symphonic Orchestra for the music you've listened to. I also use a number of softsynths by Spectrasonics and Native Instruments among others.
I've added two movements for Flute, Viola, and Piano (Humor and Rumors) to my website if you're interested.
Thanks for the comments, and I'm glad to hear that you liked the site. I'll have new music up in both Concert and Commercial in the next few weeks, so be sure to check back when you have a minute.
I am so glad you liked Uriel's Anvil. It is a very personal piece that represents many aspects of my music style, so I am very happy you listened and liked it!
I have listened to your music as well (nice looking site, by the way) and in many ways we are kindred spirits - especially because we both live in those two worlds - film and concert.
I liked the Hong Kong Chase Scene - it felt like Chick Corea a little (but not a rip off) with orchestral elements. Really top notch! The Jungle piece was also very good, almost avant-garde in some ways. Great orchestration, sense of line and counterpoint. Good work, man!!! (I liked others too, but I'll keep this short.)
I hope directors and producers like it as much as I do...
Hi Andrew, glad you liked the one cue I've put real feeling into even if I'm not completely happy with the mix but I would expect that's normal for most people.
I already use play engine MOR, Gypsy, and Goliath which all seem stable on my Vista x64 Intel Quad core PC especially when running Cubase 64 bit beta but this is not my day job so using it doesn't give me the same jitters about changing.
Yes! I do live in Stirling and I'm looking out my window at the Castle now.
Perhaps you'll post some info on your neck of the woods.
-I'm working on live performances for this Fall. The first piece was slated for performance last Spring, but proved too difficult for the group, so I ended up writing the other two movements.
-I'm looking forward (cautiously..) to the PLAY version of EWQLSO. I bought the Platinum upgrade with the recent deal, so it should be on the way in the next week or two, I guess.
Andrew
I thought I recognized the titles of these pieces. I'm never on the EW forum now although I still use their libraries and looking forward to QLSO in play engine.
To get back to the music or specifically your music. I feel, such complex arrangements as yours need to be heard played by real musicians. Virtual instruments even in your hands don't get near the dynamics and timbres. Now if you had swamped the mix with SD1 and 2 like most do perhaps I wouldn't notice such a failing :-)
I would love to hear your work played live.
I think we've shared threadspace on the EWQL forum on occcassion. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the pieces. I'm uploading the 3rd movement, Chas - Groove Enclosure so have a listen if you have a second. I'm working on getting these guys performed live in the next few months. I'm also uploading Coolhunter which is the final movement of an orchestral triptych.
Woodwind and tuned percussion... ignored by many these days as they strive to write the next epic horn fantasy.
I'm enjoying listening to these pieces.
