Music Composers Unite!

From what i hear in the first piece, i think a composer could use absolutely any sounds available to make music. Are there any limitations concerning the style? Personally i do not want to explore "music" like......... rap (just an example). But others might. I want your opinion on the general output of the big musical piece, it would be strange to have a 2minute stravinsky like passage followed by funk.
This is because today there are too many styles that are called music, and some people would actually compose with what others would call "very very very very bad taste". And idea fighting will be born.
I ask all of you to consider some limitations for the piece concerning today's limit of music/non-muisc.

I think the original idea was that we are mostly film and tv or media composers and that our piece would be mostly along those lines, but I dont think any limitations are in place. Our members have grown in a lot of directions, from R&B type song writers to Stravinsky-ites concert modern orchestral composers. I think as long as the guidelines that are there are kept it will be interesting. I wonder what good King Merritt has to say on this ;-)

I really want this project to get completed, and I'm not too bothered personally what styles are used, as long as they hold my attention. I know that's subjective, but I don't think we can expect every segment to be to everyone's liking anyway - that would be a very tall order.

Speaking for myself, I'm something of a novice at orchestration, and I'm attending Steven Scott Smalley's NY course in October, so I plan to write something for my segment, and then orchestrate it using whatever ideas I gain from the course. It makes a good project, and will be useful to me regardless of what happens here.

Perhaps an announcement on the front page would be useful at this point. I'm sure a lot of members have joined since this group was created, and may not be aware of it.

I agree - as long as they really do transition from one to the next and set up the transition to the next one...

Exactly! The transitions are the most important issue/aspect. If they're ultimately smooth enough, I would be quite happy to hear Mozart metamorphasise into Flavor Flav. Let's have some fun!!!
