Music Composers Unite!

Hi there people.

Just thought it might be worth linking to software/websites we might find useful in enabling successful remote sessions.

Obviously Skype is something of a no-brainer although I tend to prefer using Googlechat with a webcam.

Here are a couple of other ideas...

Sharing large files: http://www.getdropbox.com/ ... recommended by Heather Fenoughty

Notation software that allows for collaboration and sharing: http://www.noteflight.com ... recommended by Cody Loyd.

I tried Noteflight after you mentioned it the other day James, and it seems rather good! I wasn't really aware of DropBox - that looks really useful. I like the public sharing concept.
On my current CD project, my engineer Tom Hall has been shipping ( and receiving ) large data files around the country using yousendit.com

all the tracks have been coming back in hi res and slipping into the hard drives with no sweat.

Maybe Chris A can discuss the process more thoroughly since he's done two projects with me with two different engineers in the NW.
I have used sendthisfile.com, Phil - which I think is similar to yousendit. They are great for one-off transmissions: however, DropBox looks as if it offers quite a lot more. You have the drag-and-drop concept, for example, and the controlled access within a working group of people. I only looked at it briefly, but I was impressed.
Thanks Jim. This is very useful.

Hi,

Maybe you all already know it but Dropbox released a mobile version for iPhone and is about to do the same for Blackberry and Android. I had heard the rumour, but just today I got an email from Dropbox staff confirming it.
I love using Indaba.com as well and have had many successful projects, but you have to pay if you want anything other than basic functioning.

Another site similar to Indaba but completely free is http://www.kompoz.com
