I construct all of my my sounds, drones, etc. This give me my style of music & playing. As well as the accomplishment of creating a sound that is original.

Dear Anyone.  I'm a learner who could do with some advice. When people like Deuter, Stars of the Lid, Mike Rowland (on his all-synth pieces, not his piano'n'synth ones), 2002 (the duo, not the year!), Liquid Mind, Universal Energy - when they use their lovely, warm drones/pads - where do they get them from? I've got Sampletank and Kontakt, can you buy packages of those kind of drones and just use them (with a bit of tweaking, of course!) I've also got a legit - all my stuff's legit! - Reason 5.

Is it possible to get those kind of drones with any of those things? Are they hidden away in there already and I've just not found them? I'd love to use them just to pad out my Miroslav sounds as well as standalone sounds.

Please can anyone help me get started on where to obtain them from, or how to create them, or get cheap/freeware VSTs that make them?

Yours hopefully

Welcome Norman! I have listened to some of your work and I love it! Some of it is pretty ambient, and some of it very new age like. Great scores!

Joining New Age Composers because a good portion of my music fits that genre. Please check my profile and my music and let me know how it sits with you.

Ambient Life - Just uploaded ......... A Mid-tempo ambient track, combining many musical elements including an underlying Enyaresque vocal, and mysterious female whispers. Unlike many ambient tracks which are very slow and ponderous this has an ambient feel which locks in the listener (I hope) waiting to hear the next element come through. Comments welcome. :)

Thank You Wes! Your comments mean a lot.

My website, even though it is a little dated at the moment, is correct in that I still utilize all hardware based synths and effects to compose my music. I couldn't have it any other way. I've played a little with soft synths, but in my limited experience with them I find they sound a little sterile when compared to the feel of hardware. While it is all digital, it still seems to have an air to it that I can't seem to hear in soft synth programs.

Jason, I spent the better part of the afternoon listening to your music and I also checked out your website. What an amazing body of work. You really have a lot of powerful positive energy in all your pieces and it certainly more than lives up to all that is best that I think of when I think of "New Age" music. Your love of nature and good spirit permeate and inform the music. Also you managed to carry the mood without making the music hokey or trite. Not always an easy task, imo. Very well done indeed! Thanks for sharing with us.

Is your site current in that you are still mainly working with hardware? Just curious because I've still held on to all my hardware too... you can't beat those Proteus modules... and the JV... all of that stuff is classic! Though I've been using virtual as well... that has come a long way these past years. Hardware, virtual and real... whatever is necessary to communicate the idea!

All the best!

Wes

I've uploaded my latest new age score, Great Bear Rainforest. This song is dedicated to the awareness and preservation of the Great Bear Rainforest on the West coast of British Columbia, Canada. It is the first song on my profile page.
