Music Composers Unite!

Hi,

I'm new to this library music game, I've recently had my first collection of 14 tracks published. I just wondered how many tracks the rest of you have out there. How many do you have published a year? Do you write tracks for specific albums or do you just knock them out individually?

I love to learn how different people work with different libraries.

Thanks,
Jim.

Hi Jim.

I'm just starting on my second album so I'm fairly new to this as well. The composers I work for have quite a few out there. One chap I know tries to do 2 or 3 albums a year. I've seen his royalty statements. Looks like a good idea :-)

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for replying.

My aims keep changing. After doing my first album which is all electronic I thought, wow this is easy I could knock out ten of these a year no problem. But with the projects I'm working on now, which use mostly all real instruments, it's taking a lot longer and I'm aiming more for quality that quantity.

I seem to have 4 separate albums on the go now, I don't know how that happened, I probably should concentrate on one and get it out there. I've been producing tracks to deadlines recently and I've found that's how you really get stuff finished.

Deadlines are the way forward.

I seem to be lucky in that my library company give me strict deadlines so it keeps me in check (kinda!)

I'm new to this, too. What do you mean by albums? Do you publish these yourself or do you license them to music libraries, which then compile all of them into one package?

Hi Glenn. In my case, I do a complete album of music with a particular theme usually (style - not musical) and this consists of about 14 or 15 tracks. The whole album is licensed to the library and they put it out as such. Another guy I work with does lots of individual tracks and then various library companies pick and chose what they want to include on their albums.

Either way works I guess. :-)

All in all I have about 25 - some with Carlin, some with BMG and a couple dotted around elsewhere.

I've got 35 published now. I've got another album completed which I'm trying to get published.
