Music Composers Unite!

I just got a call for a seemingly hi profile placement tv commercial. Its through a management firm, name i will keep private for now, who sent me a note letting me know
"[We] on commercials on
> > a few other types of placements, receives a commission of 1/3 of all
> > revenues generated from any commercial or placement. as for film
> > composing projects or tv, that is different, and [we] receives a
> > commission of 15% to 20% depending on the project."

is that too little lube, even for getting potentially good exposure? or is that normal until you have a track record of worth?

Well, I don't know about "management firms", but publishers often take 50% of license fee and 50% of performance royalty(publishing rights). Some music libraries/publishers will actually keep full 100% of license fee and 50% of performance, leaving the composer with the other 50% of PRO residual as the only income on music they've signed over to them. Also, concerning management firms, read the latest article in FILM MUSIC Mag(volume 7, number2) the article entitled "Final Note - The Agent Dilemma by Mark Northam"
