Recently commissioned to write trailer music for GMP Reserve Select. Recorded cue with virtuals, 20 voice choral and small chamber orchestra. You can hear a sample at http://www.johndoryk.com/id13.html.

Enjoy

There is broken code on the website (due to change in the service we get our "Captcha" functions from) and I dont have time to fix it. There is a Linked'In group for IAC, you are welcome to join that. It is doubtful I will have time to fix the IAC website till January.

Hi everyone, I keep trying to join the IAC (on the main page) so I can understand a bit more about licensing or all the imponderable number of ways of charging for music.  However there seems to be an error message and no one then ever gets in touch.  Does anyone know a good place to start with understanding fees etc?  I have some understanding of copyright but these days it is getting very complex with games etc. This site is such a great resource for all of us I do hope that the donations are making it possible for it to continue!

Cheers

Susan

Hi Jurgen. Nice to meet you.

I read Marc's post, and as much as I would love to be able to ask for some money for small low budget / no budget projects, most people are going to go with the next person who will do it for free. There's composers coming out of film makers ears, so they can choose to be fussy. Also, I don't really know what else to say than "check out my new stuff". Any advice?

At the moment I'm in the process of getting all of my library / stock music info up to date on the various non- exclusive websites (sorry, that's a matter for a different group), but I do a little of that each day. Once I've got the tremendous backlog of that out of the way, I'll be getting back on the composing again.

I've learned not to get disappointed anymore. I've had so many knock backs, but I've learned to brush them off and carry on. Can you offer any advice on approaching TV companies / film makers / etc? I don't really know who the best person to contact in these companies is and what the best way to approach them is.

Do you work as a professional composer? I'd be interested to hear more of your work. I looked on your page and listened to the piece on there. I thought it was really amazing!

Neville, great to have you here! Breaking into composing for film is as much about your skills and talent as it is about making connections and gaining experience. Read Marc's post from January 9th. It'll give you some pointers where to start.

To move beyond doing it just for fun and as a hobby, adopt a professional attitude towards your writing. With that I mean that you develop a discipline of writing music every day, regardless how you feel, or whether you are in the mood. That's what professionals do. :-)

Finally, don't give up at the first sign of disappointment and develop those relationships.

Hi. I am currently aspiring to become a professional TV and film composer, but as I'm sure is the case with most people, I'm finding it a very difficult field to break into. Oh well, at least it's a fun hobby.

Anyway, here's my current showreel. I hope you all enjoy it.
