Composers' Forum

Music Composers Unite!

Is the world not big enough? Should we be inward looking?

I only joined so I could ask these questions and if I get some good and reasonable answers I'll look forward to further participation in it.

Whatever that last reply means Mr. Kemp, I've no idea. However, why you are picking on a guy for staring up a group I also have no idea! Is this group damaging you? Is it personally insulting you? Ray Kemp said: "A European composer's group?......Why?" Well, I say WHY not?

I agree with Ray... Music is universal,... Not european.

I joined because I am european... And to write this.. ;)

I will check the discussions here, and see how it will differ from a grupp that is universal (that "group" is the forum. :)

Where did anybody in this group say that music is simply European?? I'm sorry Per, I'm not targeting you or anyone here, but Good Lord! Instead of wasting time making petty and pointless discussions (which this REALLY is!) could we maybe talk about slightly more worthwhile topics??!!...as I'm sure this discussion tool was meant for doing in the first place!

Hello everyone, excuse the very very tardy reply
I know why I joined this group, and liked the idea of it.
I agree music is universal of course, but I think also European composers have practical subjects in common, the ones that affect us locally. For example, European music stores (online or not, maybe we could share experiences about items shipping, because it is more likely that I from Spain buy something in a European store rather than from the USA just to save time and maybe money in delivery I guess)
Other practical reason why I find it very useful to know who among us in this site are European is to know what users are composing near where you live (the group acts like a directory by itself I think). Maybe there is other way to find users sorting by country or something and I didn't find it yet, but I think it is quite interesting to know other composers in your own country or near it, in case you want to finally meet them in person and maybe even do some projects together? Imagine you want to travel to Greece for a holiday, you can profit the journey and do some work as well if you know someone there...
Other reason I find for this group could concern law; EU might have common regulation about intellectual property, music sharing / downloading, copyright...you name it. Maybe they don't differ much from USA ones for example, but again I find it useful to share knowledge this way.
As you can see, the main point of my thinking is that there are still local practical subjects that unite people together geographically, and of course the same said here stands for USA composers, African Composers, Indian Composers...and so on

I hope I managed to explain reasonabily why I think this group can be useful to us Europeans, because I truly think it is worthy! :)

At last Yaiza,

Someone opening some avenues for relatively local discussion and debate.

Just today I have downloaded a 14GB vst instrument library. Chris Hein's excellent Horns Vol. 2 at a very reasonable Christmas discounted price. BTW it is great.
The UK distributor had no boxed version in stock and with it being this holiday time, I could not expect delivery this year.
Now! although still having VAT to pay, I could buy this library direct from the developer in around 27 chunks. I then recorded the zip files on to 4 DVD's for safe keeping.

Hi,
I just took a look at Chris Hein's site, I didn't know it. The library you talk about Ray sounds quite interesting, I liked especially the trebles in Horns you mention, and also took a look at Warwick bass, there I liked the slap quite a lot!
Good to know it, thanks for sharing.
I would also like to recommend another site I discovered the other day. I was looking for David Nahmani's Logic Pro 9 book and found it at 26€ more or less in http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ , they offer free delivery, the book arrived in 8 working days. When tried to find it at a store here, they asked 60€ and would take more than a month to arrive...and I asked in Apple dealers.
I guess we often need some manuals or specialized literature, and it seems they had quite a good stock.
Maybe you all already know the site, but I hope the information can be of any help :)
