Hopefully, wistful musical poetry relative to a water nymph: A piece for solo piano.

Would appreciate a listen and comment (suggestion, opinion, remark). Thanks.

Sorry for oversight--getting (more) forgetful with age--but here it is.

I found the piece interesting enough to follow. The motives based on the triplets and the diminished scale were a little harsh on my ears after a few minutes, although I thought some of the interplay was clever and complicated, but at times it did seem like a piece for just one hand - was this the intention at the beginning?

Music based upon fairytales or mythical creatures I associate mainly with the romantics like Tchaikovsky. And I'm left thinking that he would have portrayed the creature in a more melodious light, with flowing phrases and a rich harmony.

However you can't change your own musical voice and you wouldn't want to. The ending on the chord of B augmented was unsettling after all the C# diminished. So on the whole, clever and complicated, but a slightly more harsh interpretation of a water nymph than I would have expected.

Adrian, thanks very much for responding.

The initial presentation of the theme indeed could have been one-handed until the development began in the left hand (page 2). Overall, the nymph I was portraying was intended to be atypical (i.e. not necessarily light and melodically playful), even to the point of a wistful melancholy at times. The ending (G augmented 5th) certainly was not with an intention of being unsettling or harsh (though maybe a bit unexpected), but denoting the endless wistful journey of the nymph (being that the chord was in the beginning key but as a modulation/transition unfulfilled.)

Thanks again for the listen and your meaningful comments.
