Hey everyone

My first time writing for brass resulted in a 5min trumpet solo 'for Matt Mattera' who is also the player in the recording. Have a listen to it here. Would be great to know what anyone thinks about it. Also be patient it might take a few mins to load.

Cheers,
Matthew

Hey Zach. Thanks for the reply.
I disagree with things needing to be dense, I quite like a bit of space in music sometimes or at least thats what I'm veering towards now anyway but thats just me. I'm not saying either of us are right or wrong.
I know what you mean by a bit of accompaniment. It was written as a sketch at a festival I was at and got a little bit bigger than the original intention but the assignment was just solo. I've actually just finished a brass quartet based on this solo so it has been expanded to be more dense with a bit of accompaniment. Ideally I would like the two played together, first the solo and then the quartet but for the first performance it isn't going to happen.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment and I'm glad you found it interesting even if it wasn't quite to your taste.

Um....it's like you're meditating with your horn.....very odd O_O

I like your sliding technique, and how you use a note as a "base" for your whole piece, but....I can't honestly say I really get what you're trying to do. Shouldn't a soundscape be a bit more...dense? That horn seems to be dying for accompaniment, but maybe that's just me...

Anyhoo, it's a interesting experiment. Thanks for sharing =)
I liked it, it showed that you know this instrument very well or was willing to learn about this instrument very well. The only thing I wasnt to much of a fan is that at times it began to feel like an extended technique demonstration. There were moments that were really good and that caught my attention, I just wish that you can incorporate those moments with the extended techniques. At times they seemed very disconnected to each other.
other then that very good, great piece and great recording. Keep up the good work.
Hey Tyler. Thanks for the balanced comment and thanks for listening. Like I said I'd never written for brass before so it was a first so I'm really glad you thought I knew the instrument very well.

Cheers,
Matthew
