The Cradle Song of Mary

A traditional Christmas carol for SATB quartet or choir, adapted from old sources.

The audio file was created with software using choral ah vocals as a demo.

Audio file attached.  Score display and audio file available at YouTube The Cradle Song of Mary.

Score pdf available from Sheet Music Plus.

The lyrics:

1. The Virgin stills the crying
of Jesus sleepless lying.
and singing for His pleasure
thus calls upon her Treasure:
My Darling, do not weep,
my baby sleep,
My Darling, do not weep,
my baby sleep.

2. O Lamb, my love inviting,
O Star, my soul delighting,
O Flower of mine own bearing,
Jewel past comparing,
My Darling, do not weep,
my baby sleep,
My Darling, do not weep,
my baby sleep.

3.My Child, of Might indwelling,
My Sweet, all sweets excelling,
Of Bliss the Fountain flowing,
The Dayspring ever glowing,
My Darling, do not weep,
my baby sleep,
My Darling, do not weep,
my baby sleep.

Very well done!

Hi Jon,

I like your short work. It has a nice melody which magnifies and supports the lyrics very well.

Thank you.

Kjell

Thanks for the replies -- I'm glad people like it.

Since choirs might be looking for Christmas songs now, I've decided to make some arrangements of good ones that don't seem too familiar to most people, taken from old texts.
