Music Composers Unite!

Hello, I wanted to share this new piece I'm working on. As the title says, it's about impressions of summer winds and breezes, for flute and piano. I would say it's about one third of its length, and there would be a modified recap of the sections here at the end.

I have attached the sound file for the midi playback, and the score of the incomplete piece.

Opinions are very welcome!

Hello François,

Well, it's a pleasant piece as far as you've taken it. Enjoyable, relaxing. The mood is the impressionist era that includes Debussy and his mates. An adventurous flute part and the piano isn't so easy - to get those running 3rds smooth and leggiero (bar 33 and on) won't be too easy.

My only query is asking the pianist to play staccato with the pedal down. It seems more about hinting the spirit of the mood to the pianist than expecting a real staccato. But it's your work and up to you to get the effect you want. I'm guessing you're a pianist.

Not so sure about the length you want it to be. This piece is almost 2 1/2 minutes. If it's just a third the piece would last for 7 1/2 minutes. If you can keep it going that long it'll be a very nice work. Allow 2 minutes for the recap leaves you 3 minutes to fill in. Development is possible including a flute and/or piano solo.

I look forward to hearing more.

Well done.

Dane

Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The staccato are indeed more about hinting the spirit of the mood, I don't intend them to be dry staccato.

I do intend it to be about that long, with the next 3 minutes or so as a contrasting section maybe, more development or both. The recap should be a little different from the first 2 minutes but in the same spirit, and inverted (gradually calming down).

The feel of the music captures perfectly the intent. I have no comments on it because I have no idea where you intend to take it. Nice work though!

When complete I might look to mix it more realistically, though I can understand that this represents the ideas well.

Thank you for the comment. I am going to post the completed version very soon actually.
