Music Composers Unite!
This is the result of about 6 months constant work. I hope you all like this as much as I do. But I don't want to say too much yet. I've been lurking here for years and just now decided to take the plunge and join. Many of you have inspired me.

Thanks, Gav. I feel the piece might be too short to try to do too much with. Were I to write subsequent movements, surly more contrast would be in order. I'll keep it in mind.
Thank you, again.
Hi Harold, I'm glad you've decided to post here. I think your trio is well done, you have acquired a style with interesting phrasing and syncopation. This works well for a piece of this length; I'm curious as to how you will expand and develop this.
I was drawn here by your interesting comments in Ashley's AI thread, I guess I expected something more traditional although this piece is conservative by today's standards I suppose. I'll post a comment there.
Good work!
Nice work! I would love to hear this played by a real string trio.
Hello Harold,
This is so far beyond anything I can understand. My daddy always says to not jump into the pool to soon, but make sure the water is deep enough first. So I'm kind of sticking a toe into this to get the feel.
Hi Harold,
I think this piece would be more effective at a much slower tempo - for me, the pulse of the andante seems to take away from the interesting sonorities you've created.
I downloaded your file and slowed it down just to hear what it would sound like. I've attached it here - I think it is more effective this way.
Another little bonus of slowing this one down: You get a longer piece! :)
I think this is really well done Harold--very beautiful music.
I do have some problems with all of the instruments seeming to play all of the time, and the rhythmic regularity over so long a period of time.
For myself, I would have dropped the cello out in places to lighten it up, and added some dotted rhythms or anything like that just to break up the steady rhythmic pulse of the piece.
You do a really nice job with the dynamics in the first half of the piece to minimize what Ive written above, but Im ready to bail after the first half without the kind of changes Ive written about as the same kind of writing seems to go on too long.
Just my thoughts..:)
A most beautiful piece, very well done..thanks for sharing!
Thanks Bob
Hayden,
Thank you for your comments. I am pleased that you took enough interest in this piece to do what you did. I may or may not listen to your file. Out in the real world, different groups will play the same piece differently. Different people will listen differently. The music is there to provide a starting point. Each of us will do what we must with it.
Bob,
Well, which is it? Beautiful and well done, or a piece in need of some work. Either is fine by me. I appreciate your thoughts, I really do. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to listen to the whole thing. I don't always listen to music here all the way through. But I don't cut them off and then call them well done. This piece is what it is. I could make some of the possibly accurate changes you suggest (and I thank you for them), but probably not.
Just my thoughts. Sorry if I've miss read where you're coming from.
Harold,
'Out in the real world', as you say, players play what's on the page. If you mark andante, your trio won't play largo.
Well actually its both..and only YOU can decide if it needs more work. I feel it does, but minor work to vary it ever so slightly and break the sameness of it, the monotony of it, which to me increases as the piece goes on, and mars the beauty of it..
THAT'S what it is, and again, only you can judge what if anything needs to be done.
OK??
Its your piece, and I hasten to add that whether you change it or not doesnt affect me at all, in any way. I enjoyed listening to your piece much much more than i enjoyed reading your reply here.
Good luck.

Hayden,
Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that musicians play what's on the page. But what I find interesting is that it sounds to me that if you were in a group that was going to play this, you would consider playing it slower. And that would be OK. Again, thank you for listening.
Bob,
Sorry you seem to be unable to deal with my inquiry without being offended. Please forgive me. It was a simple request for a little clarification.
Hi Harold--
No need at all for any apology--and I felt I had dealt with your inquiry, for clarification, by my reply.
Hope this helps.
