Hi, this post is for anyone who has recorded a live orchestra before...I'll be recording about 10 cues around March/April, so I need advice on mics, spot mics, gobos, recording entire orchestra vs. section recording, overdubbing, mic bleed, and click-track.
Strings: 8/6/5/4/2, WW: 2/2/2, Brass: 2/2/2/1, piano, harp, Timpani, Snare d, Bass d, Crash and sus cym, anvil, and few other percussion toys.
The live room where we are going to record is not large enough to fit everyone, so I might record strings/ww/piano/harp, brass alone, then percussion alone.
Would this type of recording help? Also, what type of micing situations should my sound engineer be aware of so i dont just throw my money away on someone who doesn't know. What mics should the recording studio have?
If you have any advice, please let me know.
