Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and I wanted to ask
Do you know what the best program for scoring film is? I'm a little confused about this. I normally work with cubase, and I know the ins and outs of that perfect but it doesn't really play back video in the way I need it to.
I mean the way I imagine scoring film is recording the music, or composing, and activley matching it to the scene.
Is there some other program that is better for this purpose? or do film composers typically fly blind?
I haven't tried this feature yet, but I heard that people often use Sibelius for scoring films. It has a feature where you can import videos and even match hit points to certain parts of the score. I once read that Sibelius was used to score the movie Shrek, so it must be pretty good. I do enjoy using Sibelius for compositions, and I find it to be very flexible and useful. However, if you are used to using a Finale program, it may take a while to get used to. Go to www.sibelius.com .
hey! I compose my music in Cubase, then export the tracks to be synchronized to picture in Pro Tools. this program is great for what you need! - http://www.digidesign.com
I don't know what the video handling capabilities are like in cubase, but its big brother, nuendo, handles video just fine. One thing to do no matter what program your using, is convert the video into a format that takes little processing power. MPEG1 at a medium bit-rate is ideal, because it looks good enough to score to, but doesn't hog your computer's resources.
