Music Composers Unite!
Hi
I have problems with downloading the Sibelius 7 sounds. If I try to download the big 23 Gg file it always crashes at 22 Gb, which is very frustrating to say the least. I was provided by Avid with dropbox links to disk images that was 7 Gb per image. They always crash at 2-4 Gb. I managed to get the first image downloaded alright and the other three partly downloaded, so now I have the strings, brass and percussion instruments in place. But I still miss the woodwinds and I can't download them what ever I do. Has anyone else had these problems and found a solution for them?

Lennart,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. I'm sure Avid suggested this, but try different browsers until you find one that works. Not unusual. Make sure to empty temp files and that your computer is in fine tune. What are your computer specs?
Well, people download the sounds all the time. My experience with Macs is a school setting (not your environment, I know) is that Safari is not the best choice for some things. Yes, try Chrome and Firefox. On my computer I use four different browsers.
By the way, you need 8 gb of ram to run Sibelius well.
Hi Lennart
I use Noteperformer with Sibelius and very happy with it.
It does make you pay attention to articulation, slurs, staccato etc. Sibelius on its own makes everything sound smoother than it would be played by real musicians.
If you are going to use Noteperformer you don't need the Sibelius sounds. I haven't installed them in my current set up.
Hi Bob
7.5 (tried demo of 8 wasn't impressed enough)
I previously used the sibelius lite sounds. Much quicker loading but I think you have to have the full set to begin with?
Hi there, Bob.
Do you mean that Avid supports an enhanced version of Sib. 8 in surface pro platform than in ordinary desktops?
I'm still with Sibelius 6 but I'm thinking of starting from scratch in the new year and if surface pro is all the crack go for it, although I don't know what to do about its very limited memory.
Bob
There is a demo of NotePerformer, that's what got me hooked, but unfortunately it doesn't allow you to export sounds. And they have very effectively blocked all ways around that too. I tried downloading in Chrome by the way, but I got the same result. The download terminated because of unknown network error.

I want the Sibelius 7 sounds because you can't play live with NotePerformer. I want good sounds when I play the music in from my keyboard, and then I can switch to NP to get the awesome sounds.
Lennart, if you can find a way of recording directly from Mac OS sound system gets over demo limitation. My son says "Audio Hijack" does it for him.
I can use Audacity on Win OS.
This is only a temp thing. You should buy real version once you are happy.

Sorry, Lennart. I'm a Windows PC guy. But there are certain things common to both Mac and PC which cause this problem. First, do you often lose your Internet connection? My guess is this is the first time that has been an issue. Secondly, how many MBs have you specified for your browser's cache? I bet it is too small. Often a browser will hold a download in memory before writing it to the hard drive. Just use Google to find out where to specify those preferences.

Lennart, I have had this problem on my laptop PC. I don't use my entire hard drive as my C drive; rather, I use only a small partition of it for that purpose (because Windows has to be restored so often to maintain integrity). Therefore I point my browser to another partition for all the various temp folders and cache folders my Web browser requires. If I forget to do that, when I try to download a huge file the connection times out, just as you have experienced. (Browsers typically hold the download in memory\cache until it is complete and only then is it written to disk.) Now, you wouldn't have this problem on your Mac, but what occurs to me is that you still might not have allocated enough space for caching. Try increasing the size of your browser cache.
