Here is some relaxed piece for pitched metal percussion and flute.

Please write, what you liked and what you did not.

Thanks.

FOR SOME VERY STRANGE REASON WHEN PLAYED IN BROWSER TRACK DOES NOT PLAY TO THE END SOMETIMES (!!). REAL END IS 2:34.

Thanks for comment. I didn't even think about that yet. Doesn't vibraphone seem mallet-like?

Do you mean variation inside a single voice? Because variation between voices seems enough (?)

Lacking dynamic variation in the main percussion. More hammer than mallet.

Thank you, I understood it.

Samples are EWQLSO, Embertone, Kontakt Factory.

I like this. It's got a nice pleasant sound, a bit mysterious. The only thing I'm sure of is the ending - felt a little abrupt. Is that the actual ending or did the recording get cut off?

Thank you for comment. This is the actual ending. I tend to unusual abrupt endings, because I do not feel cadences and preparations fit this style.

Anyway, I am thinking of extending a piece about 30%-50% more by using some modified previous parts, because currently there are no repetitions at all, which sounds hasty. As for the ending, I think, I can choose from:

- Building tension and abrupt end (like now or maybe more tension. currently there is little tension). This can be interesting in terms of the interaction with the next track on CD, but may be rather strange if played alone.

- Fade out of some rhythmic structure without melody. Seems good choice, but adds unnatural effect (fade out) and pop/rock feel, which I do not really want here. I want the piece to sound realistic.

- Return to the relaxed feel from the beginning. This one is pretty easy and natural. But I do not like the concept very much. It seems a bit dull. This better applies to e.g. a lullaby here http://alch.us.to/project.php?p=Music%20fantasy

- Classic cadence ending. I think this does not fit this piece at all. I used it in Little circus track on this CD.

I am not sure, if I should extend the piece. What do you think?

I think your second idea will work - fading out. The 3rd idea would work too - you could bring the original melody in at a higher pitch to avoid boredom and make some alteration to it in the last repitition to alert the listener that the end is coming.

i love the atmosphere made! but, may be a non pitched instrument for colouring the whole thing?
the piece are VERY NICE (Y)

everything are samplers???
try to record it "live"

tracked is easier, better but a bit dificult in the record stuff..

thanks all.

jair, everything is sampled. concerning long tails of the instruments, i think recording live will not allow this infinite quality, that i was seekin. or it will be extremely costly.

non-pitched can make it more cinematic and coarse, which i don't really want here.

i wanted to create some infinite meditative feeling.

Gav, where do you hear the end - at 2:34 or before?
