Music Composers Unite!

In my last composition, my butt got kicked for the rhythm. I tried this time to make the rhythm a bit different.

I would love to get feedback.

I am highly aware that the melody of this piece is cheesy and corny. This is where I am right now. I am confident that I will get out of this.

In my school, I haven't studied the composition, improvisation, and counterpoint classes yet. In the meantime, a couple of books caught my interest that might help me: Melody in Songwriting by Jack Perricone and How to Harmonize Chords to Melody by Lawrence Buckler.

Cheers,

Jason

Hello Jason,

As you are still working on the melody, I won't talk about that.

What I wanted to say was this: in this style of music, the thirds are important. So, if you don't have the third of a chord in the melody, particularly on long notes, it helps to have the third somewhere else. Your left-hand pattern has room to incorporate them.

I find root-fifth-root in this tempo rather boring (if you'll excuse me for saying so). Consider going 1-5-10 (meaning 3 an octave higher) or 1-5-9 in some cases, stuff like that.

Hope this helps, cheers,

René
