Does anyone on this forum have any experience composing anything including a part for Ocean Drum?  Is there any standard way of scoring it in a printed score?

(If you want to know what an Ocean Drum is, you can find them on sale at Amazon; one of the best reviewed ones, with a video showing how it works, is here.)

I've never written for the instrument but have found the following that you might find helpful.

Put this into Google:

ocean+drum+notation

Thanks, I will try that.

I have not written specifically for this, but I have used similar instruments like a rain stick. Normally you would write them just like a normal percussion with text explanations. I some times use lines to portray more specific expressions, in this case you'll need to write an excerpt at the beginning of the score explaining their meaning.

Thanks for the response.  I'm working on a composition which I'd like very much to begin with ocean sounds, but I'd rather use a real instrument than electronics.  I may write two versions, one with ocean drum in the scoring along the lines you suggest, or maybe I'll just wait to see if it ever gets performed and ask the percussionist (there are other percussion instruments in it) if they want to include an ocean drum prelude.

For those wondering what an ocean drum is, there are videos of it on Amazon.com and on YouTube;  this one I think is particularly informative and shows how the instrument can be used as a sort of tom-tom in addition to producing ocean sounds.
