This piece started life as a throwaway homework assignment that I turned in a couple of weeks ago...and then my friend Ray Ferretti dubbed his real guitar over my MIDI guitar part and played a short solo that made my head spin.

Enjoy,

One can point out many positive features of this piece.

Having only a little bit of time available, just now, I would like to mention just a single part that struck me.

My favorite moment in the music was between time index  0:35 and 0:38.

Notice how the bass accompaniment ceases, except for the rhythm, just for an instant.  The sustained note is played with a slightly distorted timbre, and there are two squeaks that follow.

It is the distorted timbre along with the squeaks that give this particular passage a delightfully human and idiosyncratic quality.

The dubbing of the real guitar over the MIDI guitar part was a good idea.  I think more dubbing and cross over, more use of COMBINED software instrumentation and recorded real instrumentation, SIMULTANEOUSLY is an excellent way to go.    I see nothing inauthentic in the use of software instrumentation, when it is used to its maximum effect; nevertheless, the combined use of the two sorts of sound very often yields a superior result via the effect of multiple layering.   The effect can be very subtle, but it is distinctive.  It can make the difference between a bland and a desirably acrid sound.

Sounds like Holdsworth. I like

Sounds cool! I think the drums dont quite groove enough for whats going on there and i wish the synth stabs would change up as the tune changes up. But I like it, makes me think of Mahavishnu Adventures in Radioland era. If you open it up for another solo and have some parts made Id be happy to play soprano sax on this, a la Bill Evans (the sax player)

@Ondib: I like the the guitar squeak there as well.

@Chris: The drums were created in Sibelius, so yeah, it's not going to replace Dennis Chambers ;-D.

FWIW, I am in the middle of producing a full length jazz fusion CD with live humans. I'll be posting as things progress.

Thanks for the positive comments!
