First off I'd like to say that I'm very new to this forum. I heard about it from a friend on another forum and thought I'd check it out. I compose music mainly aimed towards the cinematic genre - my favorite composers are Thomas Newman and John Williams (very different, but each special). I know they are very generic people to like, but oh well - what can I say?
So my first question is - Is this site for "classical style" orchestral music, or is it open to cinematic style orchestral music as well? I don't want to start posting things if they aren't appropriate.
Just in case it is only for the more traditional style of music I thought I should post a Cello Concerto that I began some time back, but I know I will never finish. I intended to have a large orchestral intro (similar to what you'll hear at the end) which would precede the Cello solo. I also wanted to write plenty more afterwords, but like I said - time got in the way.
I also wanted to make sure that I'm not breaking any forum etiquette in my post? I'm not sure how things work around here, so please forgive me if I'm doing anything wrong.
Thanks for listening and hopefully for answering my questions.
Definately worths another look: you have to finish it. It would be nice with some Big Orchestra intro, then some little minor accompaniament, and keeping the and as is. And of course continue it. I think that a piano reallt fits in there, maybe instead of the orch intro, with orchestra entering prograssively...just some ideas
Thanks for listening and giving comments. I agree with you 100%. I would love to complete it and add other instruments. I never really thought about a piano only because I'm not good at writing for piano, but it probably would sound really nice in there playing off the cello. But I really don't think I'll ever be able to finish it - mainly because this area of music isn't really my genre. I was mostly just experimenting which is sort of why this thing is all over the place (different themes, key changes every couple of measures). Mainly, I write more emotive music that tends to stay in the same key and is focused more on creating a mood rather than the composition itself. But if I do finish it one day I will be sure to post it. Thanks again for listening and commenting.
I will be sure to listen to the piece that you have posted as soon as I get the chance, and hopefully I will be able to leave some helpful insight.
Welcome to the forum.
This is a place for all composers, songwriters, lyricists, sound designers, audio engineers that work in the business of commercial, classical, popular music or aspire to or like to learn more about or anything else that revolves around music, in particular.
All are welcome whom are sincere.
There are professionals here that make more in 4 hours than I will see in a year doing what they love most: counting their money. I jest. They love music. There are also folks here that are aspiring hobbyists, too.
The Composer's Forum is about sharing money-- I mean ideas.... and stories... and mostly, music... original music.
Your experience here is as large as you make it. Some hope to collaborate, and some just want shoot the breeze.
Make yourself at home.
We do encourage you to post music and personalize your page.
Welcome!
It's a nice piece of music and I feel you could go either way with this. As it is it is a nice mellow and relaxing score that doesn't really need anything more added to it. But if you're adventurous and up to the challenge, expand on it. Add more orchestra sections or specific instruments and give the overall score more depth and dimension. But when I say you could put a seal on this and call it complete I'm serious.
