Music Composers Unite!
I bought a new graphiccard :nvidia geforceGTX 560 , and after one of my friends installed it, I found that I´ve often got distortion when I worked in Reaper and Sibelius . One guy at the Reaper forum said that nvidias graphic cards often has that impact when working with music software .
Anyone here who has the same experience ? and what shall I do ?
I know there is many here who is good at computers ( I am not )
This is a really frustrating problem .
Anyone who has any advice ?

The interesting points for you are:
Delete program you never use,
Limit how many programs run at startup,
Turn off visual effect.
If you use your computer only to make music you can also desactivate the wifi and the anti-virus. Don't forget to activate the anti-virus when you need the internet.
Permalink Reply by Caj Ilotuuli on May 28, 2012 at 8:02am Thanks , this seems a little bit easier than the Black Viper site I´ve been recommended :http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windo...
I always afraid that I will do something which destroys Windows .
Permalink Reply by Caj Ilotuuli on June 3, 2012 at 11:52am 1 . I have deleted programs I never use .
2. I have 8 programs running at the startup . But here I need some help : What is CmiCnfg Dynamic Link Library C-Media Corporation ? I have internet searched , and it seems to affect the computersound . Can I delete that from autostart ?
The program Autoruns for windows , mentioned in the microsoft article , is for advanced users . So I´m afraid of using it ,( I´´m not an advanced user ) .
In the Device management I have inactivated all sound devices exept Motu Ultralite and my synth. Have I done the right decision ?
3. I have turned off all visual effects .
That was maybe a lot but I´m very unsure when making changes in my PC .

Permalink Reply by Caj Ilotuuli on June 24, 2012 at 1:55am Doug ! Now I got a firewire conection for my Motu and it sounds better than usb connection , but a strange issue is that windows mediaplayer and quicktime doesn´t sound at all .
Do you have similiar experience and what shall I do .
It is not often I use Mediaplayer but sometimes I want to listen to some ripped CD:s

You can connect the MAIN OUTS to powered speakers or a stereo amplifier>speakers. I connect mine to a small Mackie mixer>stereo amp>speakers. I can use headphones with that mixer.
Permalink Reply by Caj Ilotuuli on June 24, 2012 at 1:37pm Thanks Raymond , it doesn´t work on my PC (windows 7 64 bit ) .
But Foobar is doing the job very well : Preferences - output device - Motu Main out .

Control Panel>Sound>Playback>Motu Analog 1-2 or similar highlight and set as default
Permalink Reply by Caj Ilotuuli on June 24, 2012 at 2:20pm Im lucky to have windows 7 32 bit on a separate drive ( I have M-Audio fast track II still installed ).Otherwise I couldn´t listen to music on internet .
The problem may be related to that I can see my old M-Audio fast track II in control panel -sound -playback ? ( 64 bit )

May I offer some things to think about?
Your GTX 560 is a lot of video card. Probably more than you will ever need. I have used nVidia cards for a long time and never have any problems with them.
Please post the rest of your computer specs. Ram in particular.
It is possible that you can not hear mediaplayer because your ASIO drivers are not releasing audio control to mediaplayer.
For years it was important to dissable background programs in Windows. With W7 64 bit , plenty of ram, and a multi core prosessor, this is not as much (if any) of an issue. Of course, everyone has their own opinion.
Permalink Reply by Caj Ilotuuli on June 30, 2012 at 11:55am Thanks Bob ! I have 16 GB RAM . The problem had an happy end I think .
I set Motu main 1-2 in the sound - controlpanel .
Then I could listen to both Windows media player and music thru internet .
I disabled some of windows cosmetic functions .
PS. How do I see the other computer specs. ? DS.
Thanks again . I am a little dizzy because of the pain killer I must eat just now .

I can hear much better what I will change in the music .

I'm glad! Next step is to buy high priced mike preamps, studio monitors, plugins, compressors, until you have no money left. Ha.
