Music Composers Unite!

I bought a new graphiccard :nvidia geforceGTX 560 , and after one of my friends installed it, I found that I´ve often got distortion when I worked in Reaper and Sibelius . One guy at the Reaper forum said that nvidias graphic cards often has  that impact when working with music software .

Anyone here who has the same experience ? and what shall I do ?

I know there is many here who is good at computers ( I am not )

This is a really frustrating problem .

Anyone who has any advice ?

I'm glad! Next step is to buy high priced mike preamps, studio monitors, plugins, compressors, until you have no money left. Ha.

Yes ! the Motu sounds much better than M-audio fast track II .

I´m glad I don´t have any money ( my disability pension is not so big ) . If I had , I maybe purchasing equipment that doesen´t suit me .

My next buy is a pair of studio monitors ( later this year ) . But can I now connect Ultralite to stereo speakers ( thru a stereo amp ) ? have read on Motu.com but I don´t understand if this is possible .

You can connect the MAIN OUTS to powered speakers or a stereo amplifier>speakers. I connect mine to a small Mackie mixer>stereo amp>speakers. I can use headphones with that mixer.

Thanks Doug !

How do you manage to don´t use the video card when making music ???

I don't think you should use your video card for music.  I like my MOTU Ultra Lite Hybrid. Do you have a MIDI keyboard?

What software are you using for recording music? Reaper should allow you to choose your audio device: your new MOTU.  I don't understand your question about your video card. I've been recording MIDI and audio since the late 90's, and I never had to deal with video cards. I've never been a gamer, so I've always used fairly basic video cards that came with my computers. Are you having problems?

Reaper and Audio-Mulch . Yes in the Reaper preferences I have choosed  Motu Asio  . The problems I had was concerning to my old M-Audio Fast track II , Often Reaper couln´t see the Fast track , But it has not happen at all with Ultralite so far . When I then changed videocard from AMD to nvidia,  people at the Reaper-forum said that nvidia card had an negative impact on the sound  . I have not noticed that .

But I´ve got the advice to reduce windows "cosmetic" function and other windows backgrund tasks ( to increase the sound quality in Reaper .) But I don´t know how to do that . Therefore I wondered what you meant whith "I don´t think you should use your video card for music" .

When using a DAW, Reaper, always try to limit the number of programs working in the background, like automatic updates, etc. Windows has many programs running in the background. Not good. As far as I know- a video card is NOT used for sound, if you have chosen MOTU ASIO. It should not use both.

I think your right . When I got the correct settings for the Motu Ultralite mk3 hybrid interface , all sounds great .

I think my distortion problems was linked to my old M-Audio fast track II interface .

Then I have to learn how to disable some of windows background sevices .

Yes I have chosed the Motu Asio . I´m going to learn how to disable some windows background programs .

How do I disable "Windows programs running in the background" ?

I use my computer only to make music .
