If you are a composer or songwriter working with music libraries we would like to hear your experiences with these companies and to also rate them. There seem to be hundreds of these companies but do they really deliver on their promises of generating income for us music creators? Please visit www.MusicLibraryReport.com and share your experiences. You do not need to use your real name or e-mail address when commenting.
I would like to add a new feature to MusicLibraryReport.com called “Music Library POV”. It would offer the opportunity for music libraries to discuss their “Point Of View” on their company’s philosophy and business model and to comment on other aspects of the music library business. I think this would be an excellent way for both the music creators and the library owners to better understand each others needs and requirements.
Just wanted to update everyone that we now have over 200 music libraries and nearly 900 comments from composers, songwriters and library owners at www.musiclibraryreport.com. If you are working with music libraries, or plan to, please come by and visit. As far as we know there is nowhere on the Internet were this resource exists. I for one have learned a lot about which libraries I want to deal with and those to stay away from. BTW you do not need to use your real name or e-mail address when commenting and it's free!
Hey Art, that's a fantastic resource you got going at MusicLibraryReport thanks for the heads up and dedication.
Would you have the knowledge to explain the dynamics of 'Re-Titling' and the pros and cons? I'm about to contract to a music library listed on your site that 'Retitles' as part of its publishing deal.
Nice one Art.
I checked out the link and it appears the practice of retitling receives mixed reviews. In practice I can see how the publishers encourage it because it creates more revenue and allows them to cream off a bit more of the fat before handing over the composers split on the net profit deal. Anyway, glad I got over there it has helped me a lot.
BTW - I also found info relating to contract queries I had for another library we are signing for and that ironed out a good few issues too. So double wammy for me! :)
