Composers' Forum

Music Composers Unite!

Dear Everyone,

There was to be a contest, which has been canceled. Instead, I propose that those who wish to compose a piece of music to honor the situation that millions of innocent people from Syria find themselves in right now, as war refugees abroad, please share their compositions openly on this thread.

This thread will remain open for a few months to come, to receive new compositions. So please take your time composing your best music.

Mariza

On behalf of the onlookers who silently watched the last thread go down in flames, I'd just like to say thanks to Mariza for resurrecting this opportunity. As someone who quietly enjoys many of the pieces on this forum, I look forward to hearing everyone's music on this worthy theme.

Thank you, Nicholas, for the support. It is very much appreciated.

I second what Nicholas said.  This is a worthwhile idea that should not have been abandoned.

Special kudos to Mariza for always leading by example.  More, please.

Thank you very much, John, for your support for the idea. I hope you will still try to write a piece, if your time allows. I think many people would like to hear it.
Best.

Peter,

Thank you so much for your positive response. I look forward to listening to your tracks on Monday night, as I am not able to do so from my mobile device. If you or another person wish to write text that is inspired on the refugees' situation and you feel it is a piece of art inspired by feelings of empathy and solidarity with innocent people, I think that would be of interest as well, yes. It could even potentially inspire a composer towards writing a piece of music related to the text.

I have not figured out any concrete purpose or destination for the original music that may be posted here. I welcome yours and others ideas in this regard. The more thoughtful help from caring minds, the better.

Thanks again.

Hi Mariza,

What kinds of music are you looking for to honor Syrian refugees? Who might be the recipients of the compositions that are produced and posted here? Can we also show 'support' or consolation via blogs or text? If so then, to whom and where might these pieces of music be sent to and when can one expect to receive responses outside of this thread?

Here are a few tracks I might consider for music beds for footage describing some events that might have or, might be taking place in war torn areas at the borders.

All the best to you Mariza.

This is a superb response to the difficulties which arose during the controversy the last week over the previously proposed contest thread.

I fully applaud Mariza for her decision to initiate this new thread.

Excellently conceived and executed.

Thank you.

Thank you, Ondib. It is not fully thought out, and if over the next several monrhs anything strikes you or another member that could qualify as a concrete destination for the music pieces, that would be nice. Although I think there's value even without a concrete destination, if any occur that would in some way benefit the refugees, that'd be even better.

I hope it's ok with the composers to leave it in the open for now. Of course it is always the case that each composer owns full rights to their piece, which means nothing can or will be done with the piece beyond this thread, without their full approval..

Hello, Mariza,

You said,

"Thank you, Ondib. It is not fully thought out, and if over the next several monrhs anything strikes you or another member that could qualify as a concrete destination for the music pieces, that would be nice."

People could create their own Soundcloud sites, or you could create one or more new Soundcloud sites, which people could upload their pieces onto, without names; or a youtube site; there are many easy places for you to do that, or to have others use to do that.

https://soundcloud.com

If people create their own new sound cloud sites (without names, but just abstract symbols or numbers) then links could be placed on the thread.

Or if you create just one (or two) sound cloud accounts, that could be fine as well.

Or you can have people mail you their MP3's and you can post them on Soundcloud or Youtube, as you see fit.

Many people may have other ideas that are easier to execute or better than what I am suggesting.

Thanks, Mariza, for the initiative.

I would like all cultural products submitted  in this thread to be closely related to the refugee crisis. After this process is over they can be collected in score and sound/vision form, addressed to president Obama and posted to the White House  together with a petition signed by all of us and demanding that the USA stops the war and the bombing of Syria. That way we would show clearly that everyone of us as an individual and all of us collectively as a composer's forum are against the war and the bombing of civilian populations and we are in solidarity with their right to live in peace. Copies to the mainstream media and to social media like facebook, twiter, youtube etc would also be effective and should be used.  I would also like participants to sign this petition with their real names, so I would be signing mine (if I participated) as Socrates Arvanitakis, cause that's my real name.

I can see that the co-coordinating effort would be big, but we all could help.

(Sounds utopian, doesn’t it? Yet that's what others do and it is only a minimal form of peaceful protest)

Ok, I will explore the idea on the other thread a little bit.

Well, not interested in a petition. That would belong in the other thread, anyway.
Yes, Peter, may I request that you move your posts to the thread "What are the causes...."? Do you know how to delete a post? There's a little "x" on the top right when you're logged in, and you can press that.

I apologize for requesting this, and I hope you don'tmind. I'll watch the video tonight, I hope.

Best.

Mariza... and everyone .... Please DO watch this video.    RS
