International Music Composition Masterclass - Pula, Croatia
The University Jurja Dobrile will be offering an International Composition Masterclass in Croatia on August 10-24, 2009. Held in the beautiful and popular resort city of Pula, this concentrated two-week program is designed for composers over the age of 18 who intend to develop professional careers as musicians. Under the tutelage of Larry Alan Smith (Artistic Director) and Bashkim Shehu (Special Guest Composer), participants will receive at least three private lesson as well as many hours of group instruction. There will be classes in analysis and orchestration, as well as a special focus on the enhancement of individual musicianship skills. A variety of special topics will be covered, and each of the composers will be required to write a chamber music work for a specified ensemble that will be read and recorded during the course of the masterclass.
This intensive program will be limited to seven students, and the application deadline is on or before June 1. Applicants must submit two representative scores with recordings if available, the application form (available on the website listed below), letter requesting scholarship assistance (if applicable), and a $50 application fee (paid by check, money order, or proof of payment via bank transfer). All materials should be mailed to the address given below. Decisions will be announced via email on June 10.
The cost of this program is approximately $2,500 (not including travel to Pula). Limited financial assistance (both need and merit-based) is available.
