Heavy Traffic for symphony orchestra

Hello,

I am a new guy here. :) Right now I am studying composition in Lithuania academy of music and theater. I am on 4th year.
This is my very first piece for symphony orchestra. Please tell me what do you think.

Hiya, I like your piece, very textural. I would love to talk more with you about this piece =) What was your primary means of deciding what instruments to use over other instruments? What would you consider the structure of this piece to be (whether by form, or by dialectic like a fugue)?

I like it too. Interesting atonal textures, very good expression of the technological sounds, rich usage of the instruments etc. I see here a problem related to the music form. Real traffic sounds are boring and you expressed this good. But the music should not be boring -- you need to add something: reflection of the stop at the traffic lights, screams of the impatient drivers, pauses, sounds of the breaks or the phone - whatever you find suitable, at least in a pointillism fashion...

This was an assignment for composition exam while I was studying for 6 months in Manchester RNCM by student exchange program ERASMUS. Now I am composing for string orchestra... this will be my final work for bachelor studies (In Lithuanian academy of Theater and Music).

It's really good...

Is it possible, that the eastern composers have influenced you in this alot?

May I suggest, that you simply take the first "theme" (til ca. 3:20) and repeat it >>> accelerando ~ 150 - 160 bpm?
And after the repitition, I would continue at the same old 120bpm... Song would gain in length and tension.


Otherwise I enjoyed it alot, just like the others, and wish you all the best, for your bachelor's!

Sorry, I had to add this...

On that repitition of first theme... (!!!) Transpose it all chromatically upwards to a minor third!!! Example: from g-minor to b(b)-minor or f#-minor to a-minor!

Interesting, I can really imagine the heavy traffic scene you are trying to portray. What this makes me think of was the piece rhapsody in blue by Gershwin used in the Disney musical when the little girl runs into heavy traffic after loosing her ball on the street. Very good piece
