Music Composers Unite!

So today in my composition studio we got a chance to hear the pieces that were chosen from Texas for the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) World Music Days April 2011 that are to be held in Zagreb, Croatia.
The program for this coming year is very extensive and looks to include a large numbers of countries from various musical genres:
you can look at it here

Well all this talk about living composers from my state got me thinking about living composers from other areas.
So I ask, What are some of the good to great composers that are in your area?

I can think of some names off the top of my head but when I remember them I will post them here.
Although he seems to spend too much time re-writing Carmina Burana there is still plenty interesting about video game composer Nobu Uematsu. Don't know if he lives here but some of the code for some of the games was writen in a saloon in Pacific Beach so that may qualify Herr Uematsu as a San Diegan.

Then there is the legendary Roger Reynolds. Brilliant composer, inspired teacher and all round nice guy.

Rand (y) Steiger. I don't know anything of him or his music but reports from trusted soruces say its excellent.

Nice post Tyler- hey I went to UNT!

One of my favorites is David Dzubay, although he is from Indiana I think.

I like this fellow:

A great resource along these lines is "The Living Composers Project"--this project was created by Dan Albertson and Ron Hannah.

http://www.composers21.com/

"The Living Composers Project is a nonprofit database begun in 2000, which aims to provide composers, listeners, performers, and researchers with a source of information about the music of our time. All information included in the project has been approved or verified by the composers in the hope of increasing both the reliability and usefulness of the data."

Two composers whose music I really appreciate are both Americans that have been living in Paris for some years: Noël Lee and Christopher Culpo. I was introduced to their music by conductor Elizabeth Askren
