Music Composers Unite!

I tried something new in the past few weeks..;a composition for Symphony Orchestra (my first composition ever for orchestra).

I would enjoy if you could give me some feedback (positive/negative)

Thanks !

I would almost certainly start with changing the instrumentation. There are some good musical ideas there, for sure, but it sounds kind of Las Vegas magic show background music.

Edit: Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Thank you for this kind words !
@ Bob Porter, well I actually wrote this to describe a point in my life. I'll get a little personal here but anyway….I felt in love with a girl, but soon I realized that this girl already had a boyfriend, so I knew that to love her would be impossible. So, I wrote this piece, the title "Frozen Hearts" means that we couldn't love each other ( "our hearts are frozen" ).

This would be perfect for a sand-painting performance.

It does have a musical theater quality to it. I believe some of the problem is the samples sound like their pipe organ equivalents and there is no variation of the dynamics for individual instruments within each section. The piece is very sectional and the transitions between them are abrupt, which is not what you would normally find in orchestral writing.

Yes, there are actually many things that don't come out (8th's or 16th's) because the sound font I'm using isn't good (Standards Sibelius), you are right about that !

Sibelius comes with a basic MIDI library in addition to its own sample library, which it has the option to play from

Daniel,

I've used Sibelius since version 4. Your sounds seem to be General Midi, not anything that comes with Sibelius. Give us more information about your setup. Perhaps we can help you get the most out of it. Your music deserves it. Are you using a demo version?

Daniel,

Would it be possible to see the score.  It would help to see what you intended with the piece.
