First off, Congratulations on getting an orchestra to perform your work. That in itself is a feet, and they performed it wonderfully.

 

I found the piece to be quiet wonderful. Its so dark, and very eastern European (which after reading your profile, it makes sense). I love the minimalistic qualities of the piece and the use of the orchestra.

 

There were somethings that I still a little on the fence about:

One; this piece got a little close to over using the glissando. After a while it stopped being special and I was craving for something else, but being the piece is minimal I could reconcile that craving. 

 

The other issue I had is that it felt a little to close to Avro Part's Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten and Tabula Rasa- Ludus. From the how the piece flows, the structure, the fact that its all strings, even the fact that they are ALL in the same minor key is boarder line to close to Part's music. I dont know if you just happen to be a big fan of Part, or you were listening to his music at the time, or even if it was a coincident, what ever the case may be, it almost felt as if you lost a bit to much of yourself and started following to close to Part. Maybe Im wrong, but it is something to think about.

 

Other then that, I thought the piece was wonderful. Great Job.

Very nice work.  I'm generally not a big fan of minimalist work, but you've written it in a way that was able to hold my attention for the whole 13 minutes.  I really liked your use of articulations and the varying pizzicato.

I agree that I hear a lot of Part influence, but I don't think that's a bad thing, we all build our styles off something!

Mantas, congratulations. You are another one on the Forum who write seriously, profound and professional

(I listened some other your work). Ceaicovsky said: the novice composer through three main stages:

- fascinated by percussion instrument (with a lot of noise)

- by brass (with "thunder and lighting")

- the last one and higher level, fascinated by strings instruments. You have started by strings!!!
