Try goin into a minor key and then use the harmonic or melodic minor to get the accidentally needed for snowy switch.., or you could use parallel harmony (also, make your chord progression a bit longer than 4 measures, that might help)

start by writting in 4 parts, and post the finale file of the melody line you are trying to harmonize, that way we can offer more help.  :P

The 3rd measure harmonised as follows:

1      2      3      4

D/A  Bm  Em  Em/C#

should be enough. Is it supposed to be a solo violin piece? Modulations for violin alone are kinda tricky, especially such rapid ones. There's also the question of whether you want the sudden increase of tension created by many chords in a single measure to be present at all.

Determine the interval between the old key and new key, shifting your chords accordingly. No different than adjusting the melody higher or lower if the song changes key.

In F: Am7-D7b9-Gm7-C7#5b9 (iii-VI-ii-V)

To get to D, the next chord sequence has to be adjusted by three semi-tones since D is a minor third below F. Therefore:

F#m7-B7b9-Em7-A7#5b9; the progression becomes #i-#iv-vii-III; however, in relation to the new key, it becomes: iii-iv-ii-V

D major isn't established in a convincing manner: G major, however, is. B minor can't be established in a convincing manner in this particular situation without proper preparation and resolution. Whilst I'd agree that B minor can be established with or without preparation: in a situation where B minor is establish without preparation, the passage would be most success if continued. I'd be glad to attach a file later --- when I'm at my work desk.

I hope the attached file might assist in generating some ideas.

Hallo - I'm new here, and I'm not sure yet whether I'm meant to formally introduce myself to the forum, and where.

But it seems to me I'd need to know a bit more about this before I could really offer an opinion.  For instance, is this an unaccompanied violin piece, or the violin part in a piece for two or more instruments?  I think whether this is the entire texture of the music or not would make a big difference.  And, when you say you haven't been able to make "work in harmony", does that imply that you intend to add further harmonic parts (presumably in other instruments) that are not shown in the score you posted?

Why exactly don't you think this works?  I couldn't put my finger on anything wrong with it, and the modulation to B major seems okay to me.  But of course if you don't think it's right, then that's what counts.  And a lot might also depend on what happens next, after the modulation to B major.

Hope this helps a tiny bit.  I might be able to suggest more with a bit more detailed information.

Regards, Michael Edwards.

I'm not sure the score is fit with Violin duet, separated staff would be better.
