Music Composers Unite!
Personaly ,I'm not a big fan of "Smooth Jazz".....not edgy.....I'm from the Mingus, Miles,Tran spirit...
That being said, opinions aside,...the drummer(kick dr) seems to be lagging oh -so--slightly behind. Also if the drummer added a short (1) measure polymeter here and there towards the end of some phrasings/cadences,against the bss+ pn, it would free up the predicability of your rhythmic cycle....The key is subtley so that it goes undetected and unnoticed, similar to the way Bach would change key sig. smooth and effortless w/o you noticing it
Thats my $.02
^^^Vincent brings up some good points. I'm going to talk more about the recording than the composition. (although I will say some things about the compositions.)
Be careful with C major compositions; they come off as elementary. Sometimesif I write something in C, I'll put it in B or Db just to add flavor.
As far as the recording, record to a click track. It seems the performers aren't sure. Kenny Garrett has done similar; however, they kept the energy!
