Music Composers Unite!

Basically... I'va got ideas for my next opera, however this time I want someone else to write the Libretto as last time I did it and wasn't happy with my creative writting skills.
I want to find someone who is a good poet and story teller but I don't want them to be a script writter as I have been advised that script writters don't tend to leave space for the music to speak...!

Does anyone know where I can find a suitible person in the uk?

Many Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike

Have just received an email from my friend Kevin regarding your request. I enjoy writing lyrics and poetry and have worked with a couple of people, on songwriting projects. Would be very interested to have a chat if you are still looking for someone.

Yeah, it's taken a number of different forms already but it's now well on the way to being a great production!

Thanks for wishing us luck!

It's going well, just about to get the final edit of the Libretto so it's really going to be full steam ahead to get the parts out on time...

Will keep you posted.

I was just about to write an update...! Well I have the final version of the libretto and all I'm going to say is that it's called "Consequences of War". I'm currently sketching the score by hand and will be publishing it in Sibelius over the coming weeks. Rehearsals are due to start in early March with a provisional performance date of 5th May, very very tight composing/rehearsal time.

I can't wait to see it!

Very much so I'm a 4am, 11th hour composer! All of my most successful (and most fulfilling) works have been done like this.

Most of the composers at my college take ages over their work and are very methodical about the whole process. I think it annoys them how I rock up at 9am with a new piece ready to rehearse after just spending one night on it... :p I have tried the whole "take your time" method, but I then think about it too much and it all goes to pot. Yes, thanks for that. I've just joined.
