Music Composers Unite!
I want to let you know about an upcoming event that I’ve been organizing with the SCL in NY, and which could be very valuable for all composers working in film, TV, video games and commercials.
On Tuesday, June 15, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., the Society for Composers and Lyricists and Local 802 AFM are presenting a Composers Conference. The first event of its kind, it is aimed at demystifying the process of recording under a union contract from inception to completion, looking at how to record the best music and maximize your budget and your earnings. It will be the first event of this kind, an important coming together of composers and musicians interests, as well as a great networking opportunity.
As the attached flyer shows, we have an amazing set of panelists, including: Dan Foliart, SCL President; Tino Gagliardi, the new President of Local 802 AFM; Dennis Dreith, Administrator of the Secondary Markets Fund; composers Carter Burwell (Twilight), Joel Beckerman (CBS Evening News), Mark Suozzo (The Nanny Diaries), Joel Simon (President, JSM Music), and an all-star team of contractors, union reps and other experts on recording music for Film, TV, Commercials and Video Games. The evening will feature break-out sessions to look in depth at each of these media, and they will repeat so participants can inform themselves on additional areas beyond their primary interest or field of work.
If you are working or planning to work as a Film, TV, Commercial or Video Game composer, this event is an absolute must for your professional development calendar for June. You’ll get information where to find musicians; whether to work with a contractor; what the ramifications are down the road; how to sell the idea of a union session to your producer; how to make budgeting as straightforward as possible. There’ll also be information about additional revenue streams for you, the composer, under a union contract.
The event takes place at Local 802, 322 W. 48th St., between 8th and 9th Avenues. ADMISSION IS FREE, and light refreshments will be served. RSVP information is below, as well as on the attached flyer.
Hope to see you on the 15th!
